Rouhani’s record one year on

Mullah Rouhani, under the slogan of ‘moderation’, gave promises to resolve economic problems and people’s daily necessities, claiming to have a one month, 100 day and … plan to resolve the economic problems. However, to this day he has not been able resolve a serious problem of the many existing dilemmas, and in fact Rouhani has faced humiliating defeats regarding his policies on various grounds.
For example, a year after Rouhani came to power, unemployment – being one of the major problems in Iran – remains very much on the table.
On resolving this problem the Rouhani government has not only achieved no successes at all, in fact according to his own government officials a tsunami of unemployed youths and graduates is on the horizon. Considering the current dire economic status and recession in the industry and economy, Rouhani’s government has not been able to resolve the unemployment issue, let alone trying to resolve the imminent problem that his officials are describing as the unemployment tsunami.
According to a report published by the regime’s statistics center unemployment has become a serious ‘crisis’ in Iran.
Conditions during Rouhani’s term has reached a point that an economy expert said the Iranian people have lost 50% of their buying power, going on to say the workers’ actual salary decreased 11% in 2011. This trend in 2012 and 2013 has continued as a free fall and in March 20 13 the workers’ wages was 35 to 40% less than that of 2010.
On the issue of stabilizing currency rates Rouhani’s government has not had any achievement to boast about. Despite the fact that 8 months after Rouhani came to power the currency rate has remained fixed at the 30,000 rial border line, in April 2014 new changes were seen and the rate increased to 34,000 rials.
Subsidies have also been a serious problem for Rouhani. His government raised rates for water, electricity and gas, and by launching a propaganda campaign encouraging people to dissuade from receiving subsidies to actually force people to literally choose not receive subsidies. And the result: 97% of the people denied Rouhani’s request and his threats and suggestions were of no use.
The Rouhani government’s defeat on the subsidies issue, and his defeat on the issue of implementing the second phase of the so-called ‘Targeted Subsidies’ plan, was so severe that two months after the government has yet to announce its decision on this matter.
This defeat could gravely overshadow Rouhani’s economy decisions in the future.
Resolving the issue of mortgage loans was another issue revealing Rouhani’s failures. To fix this problem his government increased the mortgage loan rates, but this too had no effect on the prices of homes in large cities.
Corruption has also been one of the issues Rouhani and his officials have created much fuss about. Of course, remarks by Rouhani’s own government officials in the mullahs’ regime are just a reference to a tip of the iceberg. Despite all this, there has yet to be any serious measures and practical measures to fight corruption in Iran. If he was serious Rouhani would have at least brought a few cases to court, even if they weren’t the major cases currently active in this regime.
For example, according to Majlis (parliament) member Ahmad Tavakoli, the Central Bank and Ministry of Industries have signed a letter of understanding with a ‘special’ businessman, providing special facilitation to this individual. This is while other businessmen were also demanding such simplifications.
The above issues of Rouhani’s failures are just a needle in the haystack, yet it is clear that his government has failed in all areas to the point that it has failed to slow the process of this regime’s political and economic crumbling.
